Resound links Fire Alarms and BMS to radio handsets vastly improving University communication system
Harper Adams University specialises in the agricultural sciences and has an extensive campus comprising a large number of buildings including state-of-the-art teaching facilities, laboratories, and a new £3million Library.
The college had an existing communication system which did not cover the complete area and was of limited value to the staff. In addition there were a substantial number of individual Fire Alarm, Intruder Alarms and Access Control equipment spread across the site without the benefit of centralised co-ordination.
Resound was approached to supply a communication system which could be connected to a new Building Management System (BMS) provided by Andover Controls which the college was purchasing. The challenge for Resound was to install a system which could transmit text messages to handportable radios, whilst retaining the use of as much of the existing communication equipment as possible.

Resound recommended the use of Flashpointer a product which is ideally suited to this type of requirement. Working closely with Andover Controls engineers it was possible to connect their BMS product with Flashpointer, thus allowing selected data to be displayed on the radio handsets as text messages.
The completed radio system provides a highly reliable two-way communication facility over the complete site and an automatic text message service providing key information to supervisory staff.
